Apply to Preparatory Instrumental Instruction (valmentava opetus)

If your child is only just about to begin with music, they can apply to Preparatory Instrumental Instruction. Student places are filled in order of registration.

Registration period is from 13 to 30 April 2026. You will find a link to the registration form on this page on Monday 13th April at 9.00.

Registration

The course last for one academic year, the child gets to confirm their prerequisites, ambition and willingness to practice music.

Availability for preparatory instrumental instruction varies by instrument. New students are accepted due to availability.

Please register only once. No separate applications to other instruments. In addition to the preferred instrument, you can add one alternative instrument to the registration form.

During the academic year of 2026-2027 Preparatory Music Education is offered for the following instruments:

For beginners of 5 to 6 years old:

  • Viola/violin, flute

For beginners of 6 to 8 years old:

  • percussion instruments (snare drum and practice pad)
  • harp
  • kantele (large, 36 to 38 strings)
  • double bass
  • and recorder (front teeth need to have changed)

For beginners 7 to 8 years old:

  • Accordion
  • guitar
  • keyboard instruments (combined harpsichord-organ-piano group)

Results of student selection will be emailed to applicants on June 9th 2026.

 

Wind Instrument Kick-off

Wind Instrument Kick-off is a great start for children from 8 to 14 years old, who either already have some experience regarding music, or none at all. Places will be filled in order of registration. The course lasts for one school year.

Registration period is from 13 to 30 April 2026. You will find a link to the registration form on this page on Monday 13th April at 9.00.

Groups are filled in order of registration and registration is valid for the entire school year.

Instruments of choice are:

  • Clarinet
  • oboe
  • bassoon
  • saxophone
  • French horn
  • trumpet
  • trombone
  • baritone horn

During this one year period the child gets the opportunity to confirm their prerequisites, the child gets to confirm their prerequisites, ambition and willingness to practice music, as well as their choice of wind instrument.

Registration form is to be filled only once! (No separate application for different instruments.) You can announce in the registration form both the instrument of choice and a second, alternate instrument of choice.
